We keep reading about the enormous problem of people lying in their CVs. It’s disappointing then to see Sir Alan Sugar and the BBC allowing Lee McQueen through to the final of The Apprentice, despite admitting (after some pushing) that he chose to lie about his academic qualifications. In doing so, he denied someone else the opportunity to get onto the programme (never mind the final), he has obtained a benefit (national publicity) through deception, and he has set a very bad example for future jobseekers - all grounds for him to be ‘fired’. Yes, he had a difficult upbringing and is deeply ashamed of his academic career; but, sadly, he now also has no integrity. The same could be said for the BBC.
